Abondance
“Our ancestors knew that symbols possess not only physical and natural dimensions but also carry profound energy and meaning: Symbolism.
ABONDANCE: It signifies the culmination of a profound journey that began years ago, from 2022 to 2024—a journey akin to the divine process of pregnancy. Like a labor of love, this body of Work was forged through countless steps, challenges, and long nights—a metamorphosis of pain, learning, questioning, doubts, and fears, interwoven with boundless love, patience, and unwavering dedication. The process itself is the destination. Throughout this process, we have been transcended by the act of creation. These past two years have confirmed one thing:
Lafalaise Dion is not merely a fashion brand but a community, a home… Where words fall short in defining what we are building, its essence remains pure.
We have ventured beyond the physical and linear state of our beings to craft these meaningful artifacts. Guided by the symbolism of the cowrie shell—representing creation, source, divine feminine; and power—we have merged the metallurgical connection to ancient bronze knowledge with cowries.
The hand-woven cotton fabric, thoughtfully crafted in the shape of a cowrie, symbolizes the interconnectedness of our communities and families. Passed down through generations, cowries have played a pivotal role in our stories, a testament to our rich cultural heritage, enveloped in the protective and healing energy of cotton.
As the proverb goes, ‘it takes a village to raise a child,’ and so it takes many hands, lives, and forces to create ABONDANCE. It is the result of a collaborative effort, the convergence of minds and hands—our proudest achievement.
Like a child brought into the world, ABONDANCE represents plenitude and blessings. Just as a child belongs not only to its family but also to the village, ABONDANCE belongs to our cherished community—a source of joy, empowerment, and adornment that we wholeheartedly share with each and every one of you.
We honor and celebrate the creativity and collaboration of artisans from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Senegal, Madagascar—all converging at the place where it all began, Côte d’Ivoire.
