In my village in the western part of Côte d'Ivoire, high up in the mountains, the dancing masks always adorn their ankles with these large and beautiful raffia thread. It gives them an aura of elegance, presence, and adds movement as they dance to the rhythm of the drums. This pair of hand crocheted and handembroidered socks, crafted thread by thread, is a manifestation of my love and pride in belonging to such a culturally rich heritage.
